GE Renewable Energy, the US-based wind energy giant, has announced that it has secured an order to supply 200 onshore wind turbines for a 1-gigawatt wind farm in India. The project, which will be located in the state of Gujarat, will feature GE's latest 2.7-megawatt turbine model.
Project Details
The onshore wind farm, which will be developed by a consortium of Indian and international energy companies, will cover an area of over 100 square kilometers. According to GE Renewable Energy, the project will create over 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and 20 permanent positions once operational.
The 200 turbines will have the capacity to generate enough electricity to power over 500,000 homes, making it one of the largest onshore wind farms in India.
'This order demonstrates our commitment to the Indian wind market and our ability to deliver large-scale projects,' said Jérôme Pécresse, GE Renewable Energy's CEO. 'We believe that onshore wind energy has the potential to play a significant role in India's energy mix.'
