Anglo-Dutch energy giant Shell has announced plans to invest $2 billion in the production of biofuels in Brazil, with the goal of developing a significant presence in the global bioenergy market. The investment will focus on the production of low-carbon biofuels from sugarcane and other biomass sources.
Investment Details
The investment will be made over the next five years, with Shell planning to develop several biofuels production facilities in Brazil. According to Shell, the project will create over 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and 500 permanent positions once operational.
The $2 billion investment in Brazilian biofuels production represents one of the largest investments made by Shell in the renewable energy sector to date.
