Siemens Gamesa, the Spanish wind energy giant, has announced that it has secured an order to supply 100 offshore wind turbines for a 500-megawatt wind farm in Taiwan. The project, which will be located off the coast of the Taiwanese city of Changhua, will feature Siemens Gamesa's latest 5-x megawatt turbine model.

The offshore wind farm, which will be developed by a consortium of Taiwanese and international energy companies, will cover an area of over 30 square kilometers. According to Siemens Gamesa, the project will create over 500 jobs during the construction phase and 20 permanent positions once operational.
The 100 turbines will have the capacity to generate enough electricity to power over 500,000 homes, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in Asia.
'This order demonstrates our commitment to the Taiwanese offshore wind market and our ability to deliver large-scale projects,' said Andreas Nauen, Siemens Gamesa's CEO. 'We believe that offshore wind energy has the potential to play a significant role in Taiwan's energy mix.'
